Xerxes is currently recruiting for the role of Purchaser, based in our Anaheim (1210 North Tustin Ave Anaheim, CA) manufacturing facility. If you are a motivated business professional with a desire to join a strong North American team – Xerxes is looking for you!

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Purchaser is responsible for timely procurement for two Xerxes manufacturing facilities - Anaheim, CA and Tipton, IA. The incumbent will procure materials, components, supplies, equipment, and services at the most beneficial cost and terms consistent with Company standards of quality and manufacturing schedules. Additionally, the incumbent provides customer service and direction to local buyers at Xerxes business units and coordinates procurement of major raw materials based on consolidated volume of all business units.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Procurement

  • Makes recommendations designed to reduce costs and improve quality of materials purchased
  • Stays up to date on current market prices and cycles for raw materials used by ZCL and Xerxes’s manufacturing operations
  • Establishes and approves vendors for raw materials and supplies
  • Maintains Vendor Management program. Pulling monthly and quarterly reports – compiles data into a Scorecard and sends to vendors.
  • Plans and arrange vendor negotiations, and coordinate technical meetings and vendor quality councils.
  • Schedules deliveries with vendors
  • Investigates vendor’s facilities and their ability to meet “total quality” requirements for all raw materials, supplies and equipment
  • Provides purchasing analyses, investigates last purchase price, terms of purchase, shipping and quantity for all major purchases
  • Analyzes materials and cost information related to “make versus buy” purchase decisions
  • Identifies and analyzes purchase price variances. Works to reduce and eliminate
  • Builds professional relationships with suppliers in order to maintain a high level of service and quality
  • Arranges for sale of scrap, obsolete and/or surplus materials
  • Implements standardization for national contracts across all locations as the opportunity comes up
  • Responsible for all purchases for multiple locations of operations

Inventory Control

  • Reviews weekly critical inventory reports to monitor inventory supply levels and respond to low or high levels of inventory appropriately
  • Plans current inventory, safety stock levels, stock cycles, and suggested re-order on a periodic basis to maximize operation and market conditions
  • Creates and manage the monthly and quarterly material forecasts with major vendors.
  • Analyzes the Manufacturing Resource Planning Reports on a weekly basis.
  • Coordinates weekly glass and resin inventory
  • Identifies old and obsolete inventory. Works with plant accountant and plant manager to reduce and eliminate.
  • Physical inventory counts – buy-out parts at warehouse on a monthly basis
  • Offsite physical inventory counts. Buy-out parts stored at vendor’s locations on a quarterly basis.
  • Other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school Diploma or equivalent required; Post-secondary education is strongly preferred
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified in Supply Management (CSM) or working towards is considered an asset

Purchaser Expertise

  • Minimum of 5 years and maximum of 7 years as a Purchasing Agent or Buyer
  • Member of the Purchasing Management Association or Institute of Supply Management of U.S. would be an asset

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, analytical and decision making skills
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work under minimum direction and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
