Xerxes is currently recruiting to the role of Plant Manager to be based in our Tipton (515 West South Street, Tipton, IA) manufacturing facility. If you are a motivated leader with a desire to join a strong North American team – Xerxes is the place for you!

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director Manufacturing, the Plant Manager is responsible for all plant operations, production, and performance through planning, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of the plant and its employees. The incumbent is accountable to supervise, direct, and develop its employees. Additionally, the incumbent is required to meet production quality and safety standards throughout the facility, as well as the financial performance and delivering on KPIs as established by senior Operations Leadership.

The Plant Manager collaborates with departments throughout the organization to ensure the production of the "right products" in a timely, cost effective manner. The incumbent participates in Company planning and budgeting by maintaining plant budgets. Likewise, the Plant Manager is accountable to ensure that the plant is operating within Corporate policies and standards, and externally meeting all legislative and regulatory requirements.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Plant Management

  • Provide monthly, weekly, and ad hoc reports to Senior Leadership including forecasting, production scheduling, safety, product development and major maintenance/building repairs/improvements
  • Manage production schedules, processes and strategies
  • Resolve production problems and implement solutions in an effective and timely manner
  • Address inventory material and supply issues, exploring a variety of options and purchase tactics to resolve problems
  • Manage and control inventories of finished products as well as inventory, material and supply issues
  • Manage raw material/tool/equipment inventories with support from Purchasing and Customer Service, ensuring availability to meet production requirements
  • Ensure products are constructed within costing guidelines, using established standards for material and labor costs
  • Ensure appropriate employee management, including controlling of staffing, scheduling, employee development and performance management
  • Work closely with operational leadership and peer teams in the coordination and delivery of products, customer service and employees for Field projects as required

Continuous Improvement

  • Implement and manage continuous improvement initiatives and activities
  • Work closely with the engineering and floor supervisors, looking for improvement and innovation from the shop floor
  • Maintain Quality Control throughout the plant by ensuring that all products are manufactured and delivered within established ZCL quality assurance and service guidelines
  • Analyze plant performance metrics through reports including direct labor efficiency, productivity, absenteeism, inventory and backlog
  • Promote plant safety, health and environment by ensuring that appropriate processes programs and procedures are in effect
  • Implement and support Human Resource strategies, programs, and procedures

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree from an accredited post-secondary institution (preferably in Engineering or Business Management).

Business Management Expertise

  • Minimum 7 years’ facility management experience, preferably in a manufacturing  
  • Previous experience in FRP composites is a definite asset, although on-the-job training will be provided
  • Advanced computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX or similar ERP systems preferred

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of plant management and production control principles, methods of controlling and enforcing quality production standards, and health and safety requirements
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proven leadership, change management, and employee relations skills, including the ability to increase employee engagement, strong coaching and development as well as resolve performance concerns (e.g. absenteeism, work quality)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Applied knowledge of Lean manufacturing practices
  • Excellent organizational & administrative skills with the ability to work with minimum direction and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong mathematical skills combined with the ability to read and understand fabrication blueprints
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
